Student Driving In Crash That Killed Friends, Injured Deputy, Named

Beaverton police named the Southridge High School student behind the wheel when he crashed, killing two of his friends and injuring a deputy

BEAVERTON, OR — Southridge High School student Xavier Denzel Rodriguez, 18, was the driver of the Nissan Altima that ran into a red light and crashed into a patrol car driven by Washington County Sheriff's deputy Michael Trotter, according to Beaverton police. Two of Rodriguez's fellow students, who were in the car with him, were killed, police said.

Rodriguez, Trotter, and two other students who were in the car with Rodriguez, remain hospitalized recovering from injuries suffered during the April 27 crash, according to police.

Beaverton police announced Monday that Rodriguez is under criminal investigation related to the deaths of Matthew Amaya, 17, and Juan Pacheco Aguilera, 16, who died, as well as the injuries suffered by Trotter and the other two students.

The investigation is being led by Beaverton police with the Major Crimes and County Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Teams of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
