Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- The teen charged with the murder and rape of 13-year-old Conestoga student Milana Li pleaded not guilty in a Washington County Circuit Court on Friday. The judge administering the trial will decide whether the suspect, Daniel Ryan Gore, will be tried as an adult or juvenile following a hearing in April. (OregonLive)
- A 17-year-old foster child went missing with her 4-year-old son on Monday, Hailey Dunn reports. Heidy Hernandez-Lopez and her child, Daimer Hernandez-Lopez, were in care in Portland but may now be in the Woodburn area. Authorities say they might visit the Fred Meyer and Trader Joe's on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. Head over to KOIN.com for photographs and descriptions of the pair, who may be in danger.
- For those of you headed out and about this weekend, it might be useful to know that sections of Allen Boulevard will be closed until 3 p.m. on Monday. The roadway is closed from Arctic Drive to Western Avenue for pipeline work. (Twitter)
- A Beaverton teen’s soil experiment has landed her in the final round for a top science award, reports Sami Edge. Sahasra Swargam, formerly of Stoller Middle School, is working on technology to monitor soil fungi for agricultural purposes. Her efforts were recognized by the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. Swargam is among just ten other finalists who will travel to Minneapolis for project evaluation and possible prizes. (OregonLive, subscription)
- A rollover crash drew first responders to a Hillsboro intersection on Friday evening. The incident involved a single vehicle near Southeast 53rd Avenue and Southeast Drake Street. No details have been released regarding injuries or cause of the incident at this time. (KOIN.com)
