Six Beaverton high school drama teams are performing plays/musicals in March. Which one will you see?

BEAVERTON, OR — Interested in seeing a high school performance this month? You're in luck: students in the Beaverton School District are performing numerous plays and musicals in March.

Aloha High School

Shrek the Musical

  • Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. March 8 to 10 and 15 to 17, with an additional matinee performance at 2 p.m. March 17.
  • Aloha High School — 18550 S.W. Kinnaman Rd. in Beaverton
Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of land, Shrek the Musical is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation.

Tickets — $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors — can be purchased online or at the door.

The Music Man

Mountainside High School

Little Shop of Horrors

  • Shows begin at 7 p.m. March 15 through 17, with an additional matinee performance at 2 p.m. March 17.
  • Mountainside High School — 12500 S.W. 175th Ave.
Seymour Krelborn works in a ower shop on Skid Row, a very bad part of town. One day, he stumbles upon a strange and interesting plant that helps to save the ower shop and tosses Seymour into sudden fame! The only catch, this plant survives on blood, and may have an agenda of its own.

Tickets — $10 for general admission, $8 for students, staff, and seniors, and $5 for fellow thespians — are available for purchase at the box office on performance nights, or in advance from any participating theater member.

Southridge High School

Big Fish

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest... and then some!
Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him — most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.

Sunset High School

Urinetown

  • Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. March 8 to 10 and 15 to 17.
  • Sunset High School — 13840 N.W. Cornell Rd. in Portland
Urinetown satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as The Threepenny Opera, The Cradle Will Rock and Les Misérables, and the Broadway musical itself as a form.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, students, and kids; or for reserved seats, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, students, and kids. Tickets can be purchased online at the Sunset High School Theatre website or at the door.

Westview High School

Fiddler on the Roof

  • Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. March 1 to 3 and 8 to 10.
  • Westview High School Auditorium — 4200 N.W. 185th Ave. in Portland
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.
Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
