Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- A roof fire damaged a Cedar Mill home on Wednesday. When firefighters arrived at the home in the 2000 block of Northwest Jessamine Way, they found the owner trying to control the flames with a garden hose, reports Sally Segar. The TVF&R team worked quickly to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading. Fortunately, the residents were able to resume living in the home despite light damage. The source of the fire is not yet known. (Pamplin Media Group, subscription)
- A thief stole a vehicle in Tualatin that had an infant inside early Wednesday morning, the Tualatin Police Department stated in a media release. The owner of the stolen 2020 Kia Sedona left the child in the vehicle while he ran into a nearby business to drop off his dog. The suspect released the infant in Oregon City. Police were able to track the owner's cellphone, which was also left in the van, to follow the vehicle and make an arrest in Northeast Portland. The suspect had been identified as Marcus Esa Paul, 24, of Tualatin. (Twitter)
- Next time you're in the mood for a drive, consider a cruise around Washington County to view the Tualatin Valley Quilt Barn Trail. The idea originated around ten years ago, with barn owners throughout the community installing large, colorful panels representing their family history and connection to the region. Altogether, there are 59 total panels to view along the trail. Click here to find a map of the Tualatin Valley Quilt Barn Trail. (KPTV.com)
- Improvements to TriMet's Red Line set for Beaverton and Hillsboro are set to reduce traffic congestion in the metro area. The addition of ten stops in the two neighboring cities is part of the agency's plan to lower travel times on public transportation by 20%. TriMet also plans on adding bigger buses to its fleet — all in an effort to improve user confidence, increase ridership and take more personal vehicles off the road. (American City & County)
- The Westside is a great place to snag great chaat, biryani and other classic and not-so-classic varieties of Indian food, according to a roundup curated by Nick Zukin and Michael C. Zusman. Sample sweets at India Sweets & Spices in the Bethany area, indulge in a generously portioned biryani at Chettinad (14125 SW Walker Rd.) or try one of the other praiseworthy spots on the list without traveling too far from home.
