Mogan Foundation grant powers Diesel Technology training at Southwestern (socc.edu) — A major boost is coming to Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Coos Bay campus, where an $80,000 Judith Ann Mogan Foundation grant is helping launch a new Diesel Mechanic Technology building targeted for completion in fall 2026. The college and its foundation are raising $1 million total, aiming to train more local diesel mechanics for high-demand, well-paying jobs that support South Coast industries.

2. PCIP Update: Port Holds First Monthly Meeting for Terminal Project (theworldlink.com) — The Port of Coos Bay will now hold public board meetings on the Pacific Coast Intermodal Port Project every first Tuesday at 8 a.m., giving residents a regular chance to get updates or comment. The first session drew both project critics and union leaders, and included reports on channel changes, rail upgrades, and terminal construction planning.

HRACC seeks donations, volunteers for annual event to aid Coos Bay's homeless community (nbc16.com) — Coos Bay residents are invited to support the 16th annual Homeless Persons' Memorial & Celebration on December 19 at Harmony United Methodist Church, which offers a free meal, essential supplies, and a candlelight memorial. HRACC is seeking donations of winter gear, camping supplies, hygiene items, gift cards, toys, and volunteers, with free transportation provided from several nearby communities.

4. Community Invited to Join OCCI and SWOCC Foundation for the 2026 Uncorking Opportunity! Scholarship Fundraiser (socc.edu) — Coos Bay residents 21 and older are invited to the 2026 Uncorking Opportunity! scholarship fundraiser at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 6–8 p.m. Your $95 ticket supports Southwestern Oregon Community College scholarships while you enjoy student-prepared hors d’oeuvres, Oregon wines, and both silent and live auctions featuring adventure-themed items.
