1. Man charged with damaging equipment at Shedd Institute (registerguard.com) — Eugene Police say a 44-year-old Eugene man has been arrested in connection with damage to sound equipment at the Shedd Institute after he allegedly refused to leave and caused a disturbance on December 9. He was later lodged at Lane County Jail by Springfield Police on another matter and now faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief and trespass related to the Shedd incident.

2. Dramatic decrease in tipping fees endangers CleanLane project (registerguard.com) — Lane County’s CleanLane waste-recovery project, partnered with Eugene-based Bulk Handling Systems, is in trouble as haulers divert trash away from Short Mountain, shrinking the fund that supports local landfill and recycling services. Commissioners will vote on moving the facility to the landfill site and updating methane-capture technology, while also confronting delinquent system benefit fees that help keep garbage rates lower in Eugene than in Springfield, Salem, or Medford.

3. Eugene driver faces DUII, reckless driving after crash on Green Acres (kezi.com) — Eugene police arrested a 43-year-old driver after an early-morning crash near Green Acres Road and Delta Oaks Drive that damaged trees, a fence, and a crosswalk sign. Officers say they suspected impairment, used pepper spray and a taser during the arrest, and the man now faces DUII, reckless driving, and resisting arrest charges.

4. Rob Reiner's Eugene stop changed Oregon film history forever (kezi.com) — A chance stop in downtown Eugene helped bring Rob Reiner’s classic film “Stand By Me” to Western Oregon, after he followed a billboard toward Cottage Grove’s train tracks. Local film advocate Bob Larson recalls guiding Reiner to key rail locations, which led to scenes being shot in Eugene and nearby towns, cementing the region’s place in movie history.
