In February, he pleaded guilty.
The district attorney's office had asked for a longer sentence and brought in the family of the man he had killed.
Weaver's law objected to their inclusion, arguing that they had nothing relevant to the current case.
"This kind of emotional appeal may seem useful to the State," James O'Rourke wrote in court papers. "But it is improper in this setting and is actually exploitation of the genuine grief experienced by the family in the 2006 case.
"Parading their loss for emotional effect is unseemly in and of itself."
The family did appear and told the judge they are concerned that Weaver will hurt others.
Weaver will be eligible to get his license back when he gets out of prison. The eight-year suspension is over in November.
