DUII Patrols In Gresham Will Increase Through Labor Day

Additional funding will allow Gresham police to increase the number of officers patrolling the city looking for impaired drivers.

GRESHAM, OR — Gresham police will reportedly ramp up impaired driving enforcement through Labor Day weekend. The increase in patrols is made possible by funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing traffic fatalities.

With an increased number of officers on patrol looking specifically for impaired drivers, Gresham police officials hope potential drunk or impaired drivers are deterred well before taking the risk.

Police officials offered the following tips to avoid drunk or impaired driving:

  • Stop alcohol service long before the event is over.
  • Prepare for guests to stay the night or assist with calling for cab service.
  • Choose a responsible designated driver.
  • Serve plenty of food to lessen the effects of alcohol.
  • Offer a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages.

"Everyone plays an important part in keeping our highways and city streets safe," Gresham police officials said.
