Gresham Man Leads Officers On Chase, Is Arrested, Guns Seized: Police

A man drove away when officers tried to stop him, according to Portland police. When they did stop him, they seized three guns, police said.

GRESHAM, OR — A Gresham man was arrested after police said he drove away when officers tried to arrest him. It happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Portland police said that two offices from the East Precinct tried to stop a 2020 Chrysler 300 at the intersection of Southeast 82nd Ave. and Southeast Holgate Blvd. The car had been reported stolen, according to police.

The driver didn't stop, police said.

Even after police said that the officers managed to deflate tires on the Chrysler, the driver kept going.

As officers from the Portland Police Bureau's Air Support Unit followed in an airplane, the car crashed into.a power pole at Southeast 62nd Ave. and Southeast Knapp St, according to police. They said at that moment, two people started running from the crashed car.

Police said that the driver, 23-year-old Herman Graham of Gresham, quickly surrendered and was arrested. Meanwhile, they said that a 17-year-old who had been with Graham was tracked to a shed in a nearby backyard and was arrested.

Police said that three guns were recovered from the car including one with a high capacity magazine that could hold 50nrounds of 9mm ammunition.

Graham is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicles, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempt to elude by vehicle, attempt to elude on foot, felon in possession of a firearm, reckless driving, reckless endangering and failure to perform the duties of a driver.

The teen is being held at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges of unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public, unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree theft, attempt to elude on foot and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle
