Grand Jury returns not true bill in January 4, 2022 fatal shooting by an officer
PORTLAND, Oregon – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that upon the conclusion of the presentation of evidence, a grand jury returned a not true bill and found the use of force by a Gresham Police Officer and a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputy that resulted in the death of Roman Kokhanevych, 24 was not criminal under Oregon law.Â

Due to the ongoing criminal case against a co-defendant in the underlying incident, only the parties to the criminal case are permitted to access the grand jury recordings. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office will have no further comment on the evidence in this case.
