Portland Hoover Gang Member Gets 30 Months In Federal Prison

Cocoa Dalonta Taplin was sentenced to almost three years on gun charges, the United States Attorney announced Thursday.

GRESHAM, OR — A man arrested with the help of the Gresham Police Department was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, the Oregon U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday. Cocoa Delonta Taplin was a member of the Hoover Gang.

Taplin is a 27-year-old who was indicted in April 2021 after law enforcement obtained photos showing him holding and posing with two guns.

He was arrested within days of being indicted and pleaded guilty this past November.

Taplin was also previously convicted of a felony, which could have led to a longer sentence.

His conviction was part of the efforts of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods, which ams to reduce violent crime. In this case, besides the Gresham Police Department, the FBI, Portland Police, and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office were involved n the investigation.

After Taplin finishes his sentence, he will be under supervised release for three years.
