Bicyclist Dies After Collision On TV Highway

Jim McGauvran, 28, was reportedly riding a BMX bike in the middle of the highway when he was struck by a Jeep around 9:15 p.m. Monday.

HILLSBORO, OR — A man on a bicycle Monday night was struck by a Jeep on Tualatin Valley Highway, near the bridge over Dairy Creek, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Jim McGauvran, 28, of Cornelius, sustained life-threatening injuries and reportedly died at Oregon Health & Science University early Tuesday.

The collision reportedly occurred around 9:15 p.m. Oct. 1. McGauvran was reportedly riding a BMX bike in the middle of the highway when he was hit by an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee occupied by two people. McGauvran was not wearing a helmet and his bike had no safety light, sheriff's officials said.

The people in the Jeep, a man and woman both aged 55 years, reportedly remained at the scene of the collision and cooperated with the subsequent investigation. It does not appear as though any citations have been issued nor have any arrests been made in this case.

TV Highway was closed for about an hour between Hillsboro and Cornelius while crash investigators cleared the area.

McGauvran was listed in critical condition after the crash, but he was pronounced deceased by the Washington County Sheriff's Office around 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
