Hilhi Opens New Turf Field, Prepares For Other Upcoming Projects

City and school district officials met last week to celebrate the opening of Hillsboro High School's first turf field.

HILLSBORO, OR — With the ribbon cutting for its brand new bond-funded turf field out of the way, Hillsboro High School officials are looking at the next round of improvements slated forthe city's oldest high school facility: $11 million worth of renovations and a $3.5 million investment to expand the school's career and technical education spaces.

More than $27 million of the 2017 voter-approved $408 million capital construction bond was earmarked for Hilhi projects, according to the Hillsboro School District (HSD). Investments to Hilhi were second only to Glencoe High School, which will see more than $31 million invested by 2022.

HSD officials last week revealed renderings of the proposed improvements to Hilhi's common area, media center, and administrative/counseling offices. The reveal followed the much-anticipated ribbon cutting for the new lighted, seven-lane track and turf field constructed at the school over this past summer.

The ribbon cutting event on Oct. 3 was attended by not only Hilhi students and staff but also HSD Superintendent Mike Scott and Hillsboro Mayor Steve Callaway. The new field will reportedly be shared by the Hilhi soccer, football, and lacrosse teams as well as the marching band, dance team, and other groups.

Glencoe High School also received a new turf field this past summer as well as a Hillsboro Hops-funded Youth Field, paid for by a $300,000 donation from the local minor league baseball club. More construction projects will begin in Spring 2019, which include $18 million in renovations and expansions.
