Hillsboro Ducklings Rescued From Storm Drain By City Worker
A half dozen ducklings may not know the name Luke Smith but they owe him a lot after the Hillsboro worker rescued them from a storm drain.

HILLSBORO, OR — As it turns out, working for the Department of Public Works in Hillsboro doesn't always mean handling jobs such as filling potholes and switching out a stop sign.
As Luke Smith found out Tuesday night, sometimes it means helping those not capable of helping themselves, according to the city.
In this case, ducklings.

Smith, a senior technician with public works, was called for a special job, Hillsboro city officials said.
Someone saw some ducklings take a very wrong turn, the city said.

Smith arrived and, after some fishing, was able to get them out of a storm drain where they had fallen.
He searched for their mother, who was nowhere to be found.
The city said that the ducklings are now "safe and sound on a private farm in Sherwood."
