Hillsboro Leaf Pickup Program Begins Nov. 1

Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 20, Public Works crews will pickup leaves in Hillsboro twice. Here's how you can help out.

HILLSBORO, OR — Hillsboro's curbside leaf pickup program will begin in a few short weeks, and city officials are helping residents prepare for pickups in their respective districts.

Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 20, Hillsboro Public Works crews will pickup leaves in neighborhoods throughout the city. Broken into eight separate districts, the pickup teams will visit each district twice.

Prior to each pickup, residents are encouraged to help out by raking loose leaves from the streets in front of their homes and making a line roughly 18 inches away from the curb to allow stormwater to drain. Additionally, the lines of leaves, or windrows, cannot block mailboxes, driveways, garbage collection areas, or street intersections and cul-de-sacs.

The city will also host two events this fall allowing residents to bring their leaves to a drop-off site themselves.

On Nov. 10 and Dec. 15, Public Works crews will accept leaves at the Fairground Sports Complex, at the intersection of Northeast 28th Avenue and Northeast Veterans Drive, between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the Leaf Disposal Drop-off & Food Drive.

Leaves dropped off on those dates do not need to be bagged, officials said; but if they are, residents are asked to use biodegradable bags. Yard debris collected from commercial businesses will not be accepted.

Food donations collected at that time will be given to the Oregon Food Bank and used to help local families in-need.
