HILLSBORO, OR — A Hillsboro man was arrested and charged Thursday after police responded to a call that someone stole cans off a porch and determined that he may have been connected to two other break-ins nearby, police said Thursday.

Steven Michael Trout, 24, of Hillsboro, was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and one count each of first-degree attempted burglary and third-degree theft, according to police.

He was being held in Washington County Jail without bail, police said.

Trout — who is also known as Stephanie Trout, according to Hillsboro police — was charged in Clark County in 2020 with first-degree escape after he escaped while being held on burglary and theft charges, according to court records.

In Multnomah County, he was wanted on a probation violation, court records said. In Marion County, he was wanted on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, according to court records.

Trout was convicted twice last year for MAX fare violations, according to court records. It is not known why those convictions did not result in his arrest on the outstanding warrants, which had been issued earlier, according to court records.

Hillsboro police were in the Orenco Station neighborhood around 3 a.m. Thursday after getting a call that someone stole cans from the porch of a house. They also got a call that someone broke into a house on Northeast Asbury Drive and stole keys and a mug, police said.

Soon after, they received a call that a person broke into a house on Northeast 65th Avenue and took a women's purse and that a person was trying to break into a house nearby, police said.
