Sehy slammed on the brakes of his Land Rover SUV, police said. A Ford Flex drove on the shoulder to get around the SUV, police said. The Ford was driven by a man, with his wife in the front passenger seat and two sons, aged 11 and 9, and a daughter, 8, in the back seat, police said.
The SUV driver pulled up alongside the Ford and pointed a gun at it, according to court papers.
The father heard shots, and the Ford's passenger window shattered, forcing him to pull over, thinking that his daughter had been shot, court documents said. He checked to find none of his family members was injured, court documents said.
Police found a bullet fragment and four bullet holes in the Ford, court papers said.
The father later said that everyone in the family was suffering nightmares, was reluctant to get back in the car and was having trouble sleeping, police said.
Police found Sehy after a female motorist on Highway 26 on the same day reported the partial license plate of an SUV whose driver threw a drink at her car, court documents said. The woman was not identified.
Sehy previously served time on convictions of first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping, court records said. He also filed a police report when someone broke into his SUV earlier this year, police said.
