HILLSBORO, OR — The tent helped stopped the rain from washing away the sunny smiles from the faces of people as they grabbed shovels for the groundbreaking of Hillsboro's newest elementary school. Located on SE Kinnaman, it will serve the families moving into the growing South Hillsboro neighborhood.

It is expected to open to students in September 2023.

Officials say that 73,500 square foot building will be home to around 600 students. It will have solar panels on the roof, a STEAM lab, and several large group learning areas adjacent to classrooms.

It will also have a turf field that will be available for use by the community.

And speaking of community, what every Oregonian likes to hear, the building will be available for residents to immediately use as a shelter after an earthquake.
