📰 News we're reading

1. MPD Detectives Arrested Suspect in Shooting Case (kajo.com) — Medford police have arrested a 19-year-old local man in connection with a December 5 shooting near Marie and Stevens streets and an earlier October kidnapping and assault case. Detectives say the shooting victim and suspect knew each other, and the incident was not random. The firearm believed to be used has been recovered, and multiple serious charges have been filed.

2. Medford Fire Department Stops Backyard Sauna Fire (kajo.com) — Medford firefighters quickly knocked down a backyard sauna fire on West 13th Street early December 14, preventing it from spreading to the home or neighboring structures. No one was hurt, but the homemade sauna and attached deck were heavily damaged. Fire officials urge residents to use only professionally installed, approved saunas and to fully extinguish any wood-burning or heat-producing equipment after use.

3. ODHS urges SNAP recipients to act before benefits are lost (kobi5.com) — Thousands of Jackson and Josephine County residents, including many in Medford, must now meet new federal work, education, or volunteer requirements to keep their SNAP food benefits as waivers expire. Able-bodied adults without dependents who don’t document 80 qualifying hours per month risk losing benefits after three countable months, so ODHS is urging people to contact local offices or the ABAWD team immediately to confirm exemptions and avoid a sudden cutoff.

4. The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show begins West Coast run (gaycities.com) — Medford is set to host the Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show on December 20, bringing a fast-paced mix of drag, comedy, and musical parodies to local audiences. The touring production, known for tackling everything from holiday stress to politics with humor and heart, is making a West Coast swing that includes Oregon, Washington, and beyond.
