5 Events Not To Miss At The Pioneer Center

The Pioneer Center is one of Oregon City's premiere (and most frequented) community centers. See what's on the calendar for September.

The Pioneer Center is a community center in Oregon City with a variety of activities for the young and young-at-heart to choose from. See what the center has in store for the month of September.

1) Big Band Dance
The Swing Street Glenn Tadina Big Band (16–piece band) and the Black Magic Band (14–piece band) jump and jive on alternating weeks at the Pioneer Center. Their great music ranges from Swing, Cha-cha, Tango and Rumba to the Waltz and Fox Trot, plus a variety of other dance rhythms. $5 admission at the door.

2) Tai Chi Straightforward

This beautiful, ancient practice improves strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination. We will be focusing on the Yang style Tai chi straightsword form and basic sword handling techniques.

3) Acrylic & Oil Painting
For beginning and experienced artists. Emphasis is on learning brush techniques, color mixing, shading and composition. Demonstrations with experimental techniques to create texture and depth using mixed media.
To register, call instructor Shirlee Lind at 503-722-3845 at least one week before class begins.
Pick up a supply list at the Pioneer Center prior to the first class.

4) Knitting & Crocheting Class

Learn basic knitting and crocheting stitches. Bring your own needles and yarn. Class fee is $20 for 4 sessions. Contact Janice at 503-680-6543 for more information or to sign up.

5) Music Makers

Attention former singers in the Oregon City area! Tune up your vocal cords and have fun too! We’re a growing chorus and invite you sit in to see if you’d like to be part of our group. Singing strengthens your body, mind & spirit. We’re always looking for new members who enjoy singing choral renditions of show tunes & good time oldies. You don’t need to be able to read music.
Fridays | 10:00 am–Noon | $30 per semester
