Clackamas Fire Trains with National Guard's 102nd WMD Team
Clackamas Fire District #1 HazMat Response Team conducted a joint training exercise with the National Guard's 102nd WMD Civil Support Team.
MILWAUKIE, OR - On November 14, the Oregon National Guard's 102nd Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) - Civil Support Team partnered with the Clackamas Fire District #1 Hazardous Materials Response Team and conducted a joint training exercise. The 102nd WMD is deployed upon request by Fire Departments through Oregon Emergency Management. The 102nd was created after 9/11 to augment first responders during WMD incidents. They are full-time Oregon National Guard soldiers who are trained in Hazmat/WMD.
The joint training exercise covered specialized protective suits that are used for mitigating emergencies involving many possible hazardous exposures, focused on a biological dispersion weapons, as well as decontamination. Clackamas Fire District #1 Hazardous Materials Response Team is very fortunate to have such an amazing resource with the 102nd WMD Civil Support Team.
