Oregon City Commission Votes Down Whitewater Park Plan

City was under pressure from Metro, which feared a large public financial commitment.

A whitewater park that had been touted as a possible feature in the redevelopment of the former Blue Heron paper mill is likely not going to happen after a recent decision by the Oregon City Commission to nix the project.

It was an about face from an unanimous vote last month that would have included the whitewater park proposed by We Love Clean Rivers.

The Blue Heron site has sat empty since the mill closed in 2011.

Oregon City - which is part of a coalition that includes Metro, Clackamas County, and the state - had been under pressure from Metro to not include the whitewater park in their plans because of cost concerns.
