Oregon City Schools Considers Pioneer Pete At Pioneer Stadium
The Oregon City School District faces a dilemma. Oregon City HS wants their mascot at their stadium. Problem is other schools also use it.

OREGON CITY, OR —From the point of view of Oregon City high School, the idea makes perfect sense. Their football team plays at Pioneer Stadium. Their mascot is Pioneer Pete. So, Pioneer Pete should be on display at Pioneer Stadium.
The problem, first reported by The Portland Tribune, is that other schools – such as Clackamas Community College – use the stadium. They're not crazy about the idea.

The Oregon City School District board considered the high school's request at their meeting last week and tabled the issue until October.
The board is fairly split with the four most recently elected members of the board support installing the image of Pioneer Pete on the turf. Estimates state that doing so would cost around $10,000. Some of those members say that since the school owns the stadium, it's their decision.

The district's superintendent says that's not the case. The district owns the stadium, other schools use the stadium.
Other critics say that even if the image were laid across part of the field, the only people who'd be able to make it out would be people high up in the stadium and birds.
The board will continue the discussion when they meet on October 11
