Pilot Killed in Plane Crash at the Airshow of the Cascades
Witnesses describe the plane crashing soon after taking off.
A biplane crashed soon after taking off at the Airshow of the Cascades in Madras Saturday afternoon. It happened just around 3:00 p.m..
The pilot, 61-year-old Marcus Bruce Paine, was killed in the crash.
The air show's website describes Paine as someone who "brings the thrill of aerobatic flight from his hometown of Anchorage. Marc has been a pilot for over 20 years and is a skilled flight instructor - teaching pilots of all skill levels new ways of thinking about the principal of flight."

He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and was an officer with the U.S. Army Special Forces. He was also an Airborne Ranger and commanded a combat dive A Team.
Witnesses described on social media how the plane was about three-quarters of the way through a loop when it crashed.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot was the only one on the plane. There were no reports of injuries on the ground.
The FAA is leading the investigation.
