Whitewater Park Being Considered for Willamette Falls

Could a whitewater park be in the works for the area just north of Willamette Falls?

It's one of the projects being considered by the Willamette Falls Legacy Project, which is helping oversee restoration and renovation of the area previously occupied by paper mills.

The Project is working with representatives of several groups including Oregon City, Metro, and Clackamas County to develop it into an area including a recreational area, businesses, and a park.

The whitewater area could include kayaking, tubing, and wave areas geared toward different levels of user.

All this attention has been a big moment for the Falls, which is the second most powerful waterfall in North America.

It has long been a gathering place for Native American tribes including the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.
