📰 News we're reading

• First applicant gets the keys: Buyers can apply for homes in Bend, Sisters (bendbulletin.com) — Lower-income Deschutes County residents now have a first-come shot at buying an affordable home in Sisters through a zero-interest, no-down-payment loan program. One 1,055-square-foot home in a west-of-downtown triplex is reserved for eligible first-time buyers who meet income and education requirements. If you’re hoping to stay in Sisters, this could be your path to ownership.

• Forest service to allow certain e-bikes on popular Central Oregon trails (opb.org) — Starting in April, certain Class 1 e-bikes will be allowed on parts of the Sisters trail network within the Deschutes National Forest, opening 161 miles of Central Oregon trails to more riders. The change, years in the making, applies only to pedal-assist bikes capped at 20 mph and excludes more powerful or modified models, with some winter wildlife areas remaining off-limits until April 1.
