Abington PD Welcomes New Officer And Promotes Veteran to Sergeant

ABINGTON, PA — A new face will now be seen patrolling the community while a veteran APD member has moved up in rank.

Abington Township Police announced this week that it has hired a new police officer, Jakob Henze, who is preparing to begin his law enforcement career after obtaining both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice from Monmouth University.

Simultaneously, the police department promoted 12-year Abington PD veteran Ryan Duntzee to the rank of Sergeant.

The department announced the new hire and the promotion through its Facebook page on July 19.

“I am honored to be a part of Abington Township Police Department,” Henze was quoted as saying. “It means a lot to me to be hired by such a respected organization. Thank you to my friends and family for their support. I am excited to get started in my career at APD.”

Henze is a native of New Britain in Bucks County where he was a Central Bucks South High School graduate.

Duntzee has served in various capacities during his 12 years at Abington, in both the patrol and detective divisions, the police department stated. While in the patrol unit, he served as a D.A.R.E. instructor, a field training officer, an Internet safety instructor, an evidence technician and he served on the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.

Duntzee was reassigned to the detective division back in 2015, where he worked as both a detective and a juvenile detective, and he also served as a member of the Drone and Crime Scene Units, the department stated.

Abington is one of the larger municipal police department's in eastern Montgomery County, with around 91 sworn officers, according to information on the department's website.
