Driving advice: Look out of parked cars, leave the beer at home, and 'shiny side up'

Theft … Ayesha Shante Ware, 20, of Brunner Street, Philadelphia, was arrested after she admitted to stealing $20 while working as a Macy’s cashier on July 3, police said. According to police, Ware was seen via closed-circuit television taking a $20 bill out of the cash register and putting it in her left pants pocket. When a Macy’s loss prevention officer confronted Ware, she admitted to stealing the money, and also admitted to stealing five $20 bills on separate dates in June, police said.
Forgery … A warrant was issued June 27 for Yehor Mochalov, 22, of Strahle Street, Philadelphia, after he made two separate purchases for low-dollar merchandise at the Nordstrom Rack store in Willow Grove Park mall, each with a counterfeit $100 bill, police said. The transactions happened on June 17 and June 18, according to police.

Retail theft … Edna Jesus-Villegas, 35, of West Butler Street, Philadelphia, was arrested June 22 at 5:15 p.m. after she concealed nine items— worth a total of $372 — while in a Sears fitting room and left without attempting to pay, police said.
DUI, careless driving and driving without a license … Travis Robin Spencer, 31, of Charles Street, Glenside, was arrested June 22 at about 10:55 p.m. following a call for a hit-and-run in the 2700 block of Limekiln Pike, police said. According to police, several witnesses saw a white Dodge Caravan crash into several parked cars; they then saw the driver exit the vehicle and flee on foot.

Several witnesses said the man was wearing jean shorts, and said he ran behind a house in the 200 block of Maple Avenue. Police went to the home associated with the Caravan’s registration; his fiancé said Spencer was driving the van and said she got a message saying that he needed to be picked up in the corner of Central and Spear avenues in Ardsley because he was drunk, police said.
Police responded to the corner of Central and Spear avenues and found Spencer passed out on the grass — he smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. When asked where he was, he said he was lying on his front lawn.
Criminal extradition act … Bridgette Felice Jenkins, 41, of West Manheim Street, Philadelphia, was arrested June 20 at 1:18 a.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Woodland and Edwards roads for driving without her headlights on, police said. According to police, Jenkins first said she had no identification, gave a false name and date of birth and smelled of alcohol. She failed a field sobriety test, had a blood alcohol content of 0.087 percent and had an open can of Foster’s beer on the driver’s side floor, police said. When pressed, she finally gave her real name and date of birth; Jenkins has two open warrants out of Philadelphia, and one open warrant out of Delaware.
DUI and careless driving … Jacqueline Marie Ortiz, 42, of Easton Road, Glenside, was arrested June 16 at 8:50 p.m. following a crash in the corner of Moreland and Davisville roads in which she was rear-ended at a red light, police said. According to police, Ortiz smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet. She said she had two drinks at TGI Fridays and then said, “I had as much as they would give me.” Ortiz failed a field sobriety test, was verbally abusive toward police and refused a chemical test.
Accidents involving personal injury, driving with a suspended license … Tonya Schreffler, 19, of Greenwood Avenue, Jenkintown, was arrested following a 3-car crash June 2 at 11:54 a.m. in the corner of Old York and Susquehanna roads in which witnesses said a woman, later identified as Schreffler, fled the scene, police said. According to police, the two other drivers involved in the crash said the woman, later identified as Schreffler, blew a red light while driving southbound on Old York Road. A witness said the woman, later identified as Schreffler, got out of a green SUV following the crash, looked at the damage of the vehicles, and then fled. The witness got the SUV’s license plate number.
Police went to the address linked to the registration tag and saw Schreffler exiting her vehicle. She appeared “twitchy and agitated”. Schreffler was not intoxicated, but her license had been suspended since 2010.
DUI and careless driving … An arrest warrant was issued June 5 for Michael W. Ucci, 23, of Montgomery Avenue, Rockledge, following a 1-car crash in the 300 block of Cedar Road on May 31 at 1:29 a.m. in which Ucci flipped a blue Volkswagen Jetta onto its roof, police said. According to police, Ucci was driving eastbound on Cedar Road, crossed into the westbound lane and struck a retention wall. Fire rescue and EMS were called to the scene to remove Ucci from the Jetta.
According to police, a paramedic said Ucci smelled of alcohol; he did not answer whether he had been drinking. Ucci said he was coming from the Wet Whistle bar in Jenkintown, but did not say where he was going. He then became uncooperative.
Abington police obtained Ucci’s medical records from Abington Memorial Hospital on June 5; his blood alcohol content was .205 percent.
