Earlier School Year Start Mulled In Jenkintown

JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA — While some school districts in the Philadelphia region may consider later high school start times, others are thinking about starting the school year a little earlier.
The Jenkintown School Board is expected to discuss a proposed calendar change at its first meeting of the new year.
At its December meeting, the school board started discussing whether to start the 2026-27 school year before the Labor Day holiday.

The school year would begin on Monday, Aug. 31.
The school board will also discuss the 2027-28 school year calendar at its meeting in January.

"Our district administrators realize this would be a change from past practice, and we would like to hear from our students' families," school officials said.
