Encaustic at Cheltenham Art Center this Weekend
There are a few spots available for the workshop this Saturday and Sunday.

The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will hold a workshop on encaustic — the ancient art of hot wax — on July 21 and 22. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
There is another encaustic workshop on Aug. 12 and 13.

Encaustic is enjoying a revival in the art world of late as a versatile and subtle medium. Try your hand at this fascinating process with Laura Demme.

All of the materials needed to explore this fun and fast medium will be provided. A $25 materials fee made payable to the instructor (cash or check) is need. Also, bring your lunch, snacks and a beverage.
You bring natural bristle brushes (various sizes) and any collage materials you may have to incorporate into your own creation. Learn techniques like layering, scrafitto, embedding, textural surface building and carving.
Demme also teaches at other community art centers in the area (Main Line, Wayne and Wallingford). Her work encompasses sculpture using ceramics, concrete and mixed media. She also works as a painter in oil, encaustic and decorative slip painting. Demme is comfortable working with all levels of students. Her website is: www.web.me.com/laurademme.
