Ex-PSU Abington Student Wanted For Rape Surrenders: Report

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A 19-year-old man wanted for an alleged rape on the Penn State University Abington campus last year has surrendered to authorities, according to a report.

Abdul-Jabril Cooper, 19, was wanted by authorities after a warrant was issued by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office on July 16, the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force said.

Cooper was wanted on charges of raping a female student in his Abington campus apartment last September, and has since disenrolled from the university, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Cooper surrendered one day after his picture was released, Action News reported.

The U.S. Marshals Service Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia assisted the Penn State University Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office in apprehending Cooper.

“The rape of a student on a collegiate campus is a betrayal of safety that deserves immediate justice,” said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark. “Actively evading law enforcement is a consciousness of guilt, and Mr. Cooper should surrender immediately.”
