At the scene, fire crews were seen pulling a hose from one of the trucks into the building, while others were scene escorting individuals outside.
No flames were visible from the street, but a volunteer firefighter on the scene told a reporter that the incident might have started as a stove fire in one of the apartment units.

He said the fact that the truck was pulling one of its "garden hoses" and not hooking into a street hydrant signaled the fire may not have been a very serious blaze that spread beyond the initial apartment.
The firefighter, who did not give his name, said he does not believe anyone was injured in the incident, although he cautioned that this information was all very preliminary and official details about the blaze would likely not be made available until Wednesday.
