Gas Main Installation To Close Eastern Montco Road For Four Months

Willow Grove Avenue between Route 73 and Route 152 in Cheltenham will be closed from Oct. 10 through early February 2023.

CHELTENHAM, PA — A local road closure in this eastern Montgomery County community will have motorists detoured for the better part of four months, state transportation officials have announced.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said that Willow Grove Avenue in Cheltenham Township will be closed between Route 73 (Church Road) and Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) beginning Oct. 10 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while PECO crews work to install a new gas main.

The closure is expected to be in effect for the duration of the work, which is slated to be complete by Feb. 8, 2023.

PECO Energy is completing the gas main installation project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

During the road closure, traffic will be detoured along Route 73 and Route 152, but local access will be maintained up to the work zone, PennDOT stated.

Drivers are being warned that they should allow extra travel time if commuting near the work zone since traffic backups and delays are expected.

Willow Grove Avenue is a thoroughfare used by drivers in nearby areas such as Abington, Springfield, Whitemarsh and Cheltenham Townships.
