ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Gov. Josh Shapiro along with township, state, federal, and Montgomery County officials toured the site of the SPS Technologies site over the weekend.

State Rep. Ben Sanchez said that he joined the governor —who hails from Abington —for a walk-through of the perimeter of the SPS Technologies property on Highland Avenue on Saturday and to receive an update on the conditions from the massive fire at the 600,000-square-foot building last Monday night.

"I was grateful to be able to personally thank the firefighters who have worked tirelessly throughout this week battling this massive fire," Sanchez said.

"We saw how the fire companies are using drones to view spaces of the building that humans can’t get to and explained what they have done to control the spread," Sanchez said. "I could not be more impressed with the training, expertise, and dedication that these professionals have displayed facing near catastrophe."

Officials have been monitoring air and water quality since the fire happened. Demolition crews were on the scene on Friday to help firefighters contain hotspots from the fire at the 600,000-square-foot building.

"I am always proud to serve this incredible district that I call home, but never have I been more proud," Sanchez said. "The true meaning of community shone bright through the darkness of the moment. I have full confidence that we will continue to show this commonwealth the playbook of how to respond to a crisis with collaboration and camaraderie. Thank you to all who have helped, to those who keep helping, to our incredible firefighters and first responders, and to the wonderful enclave that we call home."
