New Board Member Chosen To Fill Vacant Abington School Director Seat

ABINGTON, PA — The Abington Board of School Directors has chosen a replacement for a former board member who recently resigned from her post.

Erin Glaser was appointed to replace Jennifer O'Rourke during the school board's meeting Tuesday night, according to district documents and social media posts.

The district posted a photo of Glaser's swearing-in during Tuesday's meeting to its Facebook page, which can be seen below.

A meeting agenda from Tuesday night showed that Glaser was one of four candidates who were put forth as possible replacements for O'Rourke, who resigned from her position in late August after having served on the panel since being elected back in 2017.

A slate of eight candidates who put their names in the running were subsequently interviewed for the position.

Documents from Tuesday's meeting show that additional motions were made by board members to appoint three other final candidates to the position — Rachel Hartman, Rachel Thomas and Nicole Gesing — but those motions failed, and the motion to appoint Glaser ultimately succeeded on a 6-2 vote.

Glaser's appointment started Tuesday and will run through December 4, 2023, after which she would have to run for election to stay a member of the elected body.

School board members are typically elected in most of Pennsylvania, but when a resignation occurs the board has the ability to appoint a replacement to finish out the resigned member's term.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Glaser has worked in the higher ed field for more than 14 years in various capacities.

Her current position is listed as talent development program manager for Veeva Systems.
