New Details Emerge In Officer-Involved Fatal Abington Twp. Shooting

Abington's police chief outlines how police killed a man during a domestic dispute on Thursday.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Abington Township's police chief has provided details about a man being killed by a police officer during a domestic dispute at a Glenside apartment complex on Thursday.

Police Chief Patrick Molloy said that officers from the Abington Township Police Department responded to a call at 11:15 a.m. Thursday involving a violent domestic dispute, with reports of gunshots in the 2300 block of Rosemore Avenue.

While at the scene, police officers heard an additional gunshot, followed by screaming, and immediately entered the apartment, knowing that there was an adult female victim inside.

During the encounter, police officers discharged their firearms, striking a male suspect, Molloy said.

Aid was immediately rendered, and the suspect was transported to Abington Jefferson Hospital for medical treatment. The unidentified man was declared dead at the hospital.

The adult female victim, her child, and the police officers involved in the incident were not injured.

This incident is under investigation by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, as is protocol for investigating police-involved shootings.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses, the police chief said.
