No Abington-Holy Redeemer Merger
The two health care systems sent a joint statement earlier today saying they would not pursue a regional health system.
According to a joint statement from Abington Health, and Holy Redeemer Health System, the two health care systems have “decided to end discussions regarding a potential partnership to create a larger health system.”

"Together we had a bold vision that we believe would have served our community well. While we are disappointed, we believe this decision is in the best interest of both organizations. Abington Health and Holy Redeemer Health System will continue to seek opportunities to enhance the health of the communities we serve."

Abington Health and Holy Redeemer Health System on June 27 announced a letter of intent to form a new regional health system.
Abington Health President and CEO Laurence Merlis and Holy Redeemer President and CEO Michael Laign made the announcement that the two entities would merge at Abington Township building, which is across from Abington Memorial Hospital.
Talks were in the works for about a year.
There was much controversy over the fact that Abington would stop performing abortions.
