The Veterans Grove at Roslyn Park Committee held a special flag ceremony July 4 at the park.
The group raised a veteran’s casket flag that morning, and it flew proudly throughout Independence Day.

The family of the late Charles David Spears, Sgt. U.S. Marine Corps, attended the ceremony.
Sgt. Spears served during the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart. His granddaughters Lilly and Isabella assisted with the raising of Sgt. Spears’ flag, as well as the folding of his flag at the evening ceremony.

Isabella sang the Marine Corps song and led the group in singing the Star Spangled Banner.

The group started last year with a dedication ceremony on Memorial Day. The group’s members said they are hoping to honor all local veterans and are looking to increase the community's patriotism.
