Police Charge 'Agitated' Man Who Brought Gun To Abington Pool

Abington Police said the man argued with staff at the Penbryn Pool on Sunday afternoon.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Abington Police have charged a man who brought a gun to a township pool after getting agitated after an argument with staff.

Makai Upshaw-Ivory, 26, of Elkins Park, was charged with multiple misdemeanor and felony offenses. including Terroristic Threats, Persons not to Possess Firearms, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment, among other charges.

At 3:07 p.m. Sunday, Abington police officers responded to Penbryn Pool at 200 Houston Avenue for a man who had allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened other individuals.

It was reported that the man was arguing with his children inside the pool locker room, police said.

As he proceeded to the parking lot to leave, a bystander attempted to intervene to calm him down.

Police said Upshaw-Ivory became agitated, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and threatened pool staff and members of the public before fleeing in a vehicle.

He was identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, Upshaw-Ivory turned himself in to the Abington Township Police Department. He was processed and is currently awaiting arraignment.
