RECALL: Whole Foods Dips

Sartori Inspirations, LLC, is initiating a voluntary recall of a small number of Ciolo branded products distributed to some Whole Foods Market stores. The items may contain onions from , an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

This recall comes as a result of a July 18 recall issued by Gills Onions, Oxnard, CA, a supplier of onions to Sartori Inspirations, LLC.  The Gills Onions recall was initiated when the firm was notified by the FDA that a random sample of their diced yellow onions taken at retail tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. 

The products included in this recall are tapenades, goudas, cheeses, and salsas which are packaged in 7 oz. clear plastic containers and 5 lb. white plastic tubs.  Code identification listed in the following table represents all product effected by this recall.  The code information can be located on the side of each container.  No other Sartori Inspirations, LLC, products are affected by this recall.

On Friday, July 20, Sartori Inspirations, LLC, notified Whole Foods Market to request immediate withdrawal of potentially affected Ciolo branded items.  Some or all of the recall items were distributed to Whole Foods Market stores in the following states; AR, CO, CT, KS, KY, LA, MA, NJ, NM, NY, OR, PA, RI, TX, UT, VA and WA. Some of the affected items reached the marketplace. Consumers that may have purchased a product from the list should not further consume the product and may return it to Whole Foods Market for a full refund.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the Gills Onions or Sartori Inspirations, LLC, recalls.  Consumers with questions may contact Sartori Inspirations at (920-449-7801) between the hours of 8am and 4pm CST.
