School Director Resignation In Abington Creates Vacancy On Board
Abington School Board member Jennifer O'Rourke resigned from her post at the board's regular meeting last week.

ABINGTON, PA — A local school board member has resigned her post and the district will now be looking for a replacement to fill the vacant seat.
Jennifer O'Rourke tendered her resignation from the Abington Township School Board during the body's meeting last week.
"It's been such an honor to work with you all, and to serve as a member of the Abington School Board," O'Rourke said at the meeting. "However, after a great deal of reflection, and serious reflection for a long time, I've kind of come to the conclusion and believe that I'm a stronger and more effective advocate for this particular community for education and for the arts, as a traditional community member ... as opposed to a board member."

O'Rourke said her resignation would be effective this past Saturday.
She thanked her fellow board members for her dedication to "quality education," and also thanked the Abington School District community for the opportunity to serve in her role as a board member.

"I'm certainly still going to be ever-present in the community, I just plan to do it from the other side of the table," she said. "It has been a privilege to work with each of you and I look forward to continuing to serve as a community advocate. So thank you."
O'Rourke was elected to the Abington Township School Board back in 2017.
The school district stated that information on how to process and fill the board vacancy would be forthcoming.
