SPS Technologies Tasked With Cleanup After Abington Fire
Abington Township officials said the fire scene has been turned over to the company to clean up its Highland Avenue building.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Now that the SPS Technologies fire has been extinguished and brought under control, the cleanup operations have been turned back over to the company, township officials said.
Abington Township’s Fire Department turned over the operations of the site back to SPS Technologies for reclamation and remediation efforts in the coming weeks at the Highland Avenue building.
The fire investigation by the Abington Fire Marshal in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is underway.

"This has been a herculean effort of fire and emergency management services," township officials said. "We cannot begin to express our gratitude to the over 100 various responding agencies who have assisted the township in its efforts since Feb. 17, efforts that have resulted in zero fatalities."
During this time, their environmental contractors will conduct remediation efforts and perform air and water monitoring in coordination with the township and federal, state, county, and local agencies.

The EPA continues to monitor air quality, and the monitoring equipment has not detected levels of contaminants of public concern.
Per the DEP’s website, www.dep.pa.gov/SPSTechnologies, water sampling of the Tookany Creek will be ongoing and final sample results will be posted when available.
Public drinking water supplies are not at risk.
SPS Technologies has created an informational website at www.spsupdates.com and has established a community hotline for questions, comments, or concerns. Residents can call 215-572-3326 or email contactSPS@pccairframe.com.
There is no trespassing on the site.
Sections of the SPS Technologies building are structurally compromised, and it is an active investigation scene. Highland Avenue in the area of SPS will be closed for the foreseeable future.
