Utility Work On Major Roadway To Impact Eastern Montco Traffic Until November

PECO crews will be replacing utility poles, transferring energized conductors and extending circuits along a major thoroughfare in Montco.

ABINGTON, PA — Drivers in eastern Montgomery County are being warned of ongoing utility work that may hamper motorist travel time through the end of the year.

Crews with PECO began working Monday on a project to replace utility poles, transfer energized conductors, and extend circuits, work that is expected to occur through mid-November.

The work is taking place along Susquehanna Road from Old Valley Road to Old York Road, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and drivers who come through the region at that time are likely to encounter flagging crews and lane closures from time to time, according to Abington Township officials.

The township said that PECO should be wrapping up the utility work by Nov. 15.

Part of the work involves extending an electrical circuit from the intersection of Susquehanna Road and Rydal Road to feed the new Rydal Waters development through the use of an aerial lashed cable, the township announced.

PECO workers will also be tying into another circuit close to the Susquehanna Road and Old York Road intersection to provide back feed capability through the use of a new underground duct bank along Old York Road, with that start date yet to be determined, according to local officials.
