Victim Of Fatal House Fire In Jenkintown Last Week Has Been Identified
Suzanne Whitehead, 69, died in Friday's house fire in Jenkintown. She was known as a beloved member of the local community.

JENKINTOWN, PA — The victim of the deadly house fire that took place last Friday evening in the borough has been identified as 69-year-old Suzanne Whitehead.
Whitehead was found by fire crews unconscious on the second floor of the home after firefighters were dispatched to the two-alarm call late last week.

Whitehead, who died after being taken to Abington Jefferson Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and other fire-related injuries, was an active member of the local community who worked on things like environmental issues and mass transit issues, according to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

She was also reportedly heavily involved in her local religious parish, Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown.
Local officials previously stated that one firefighter was taken to an area hospital after fighting the blaze after suffering a possible heart attack, while other firefighters were admitted for treatment of some minor injuries.
Jenkintown Police Chief Tom Scott confirmed to Patch that the one firefighter was, indeed, treated for a heart attack, and that he is now at home recovering.
Fire officials in Jenkintown are continuing to investigate what may have caused the blaze. They are being assisted by other area fire investigators.
Whitehead was identified as the victim in local media reports, which cited statements from local officials.
She was also mourned on social media as the victim of the fatal blaze.
Patch reached out to Jenkintown officials to independently verify that Whitehead was the deceased individual, who confirmed that she was the victim, citing family members.
An official obituary for Whitehead did not yet appear to be publicly available.
