HARRISBURG, PA —A dozen more Pennsylvania counties will begin to reopen May 22 after being under a stay-at-home order since April 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Friday.

The counties that will move to the yellow phase of coronavirus mitigation measures next week are: Adams, Beaver, Carbon, Columbia, Cumberland, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Wayne, and York.

The reopening is part of a three-phase plan that designates each county as red, yellow or green. The color designation determines what mitigation measures previously set to stop the spread of the virus can be lifted.

Philadelphia counties are among the 18 that remain in a red zone.

"If you live in one of the 18 counties that remain in the red zone, I know you may be disappointed right now," Wolf said during a news conference.

But he added: "The danger is there, it's real and we need to take that seriously."

"I am lifting restrictions as quickly as I think it's safe," he said.

The developments come as 986 additional positive cases of the virus were confirmed in the state on Friday, bringing the total to 60,622. The state's death toll is now at 4,342.
