A sunny – albeit frosty – Friday is set to pave the way for at least one rainy weekend day in Pennsylvania, forecasters said.

PENNSYLVANIA - A sunny – albeit frosty – Friday is set to pave the way for at least one rainy weekend day in Pennsylvania, forecasters said.

While Friday is set to see chilly morning conditions and a frosty commute, rainfall is projected to hit the state on Sunday – though how much and where is still undetermined, the National Weather Service said.

As of Friday morning, nine Pennsylvania counties are under a frost advisory until 9 a.m. Friday morning. The affected counties are:

  • Montgomery
  • Bucks
  • Dauphin
  • Lebanon
  • Cumberland
  • Adams
  • York
  • Lancaster

Temperatures as low as 33 degrees will result in the formation of frost, which could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered, the National Weather Service said.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” the agency said.

Temperatures are slated to warm up Friday, with sunny highs near 65 and a southwest breeze up to 10 mph. Saturday’s highs will climb near 70 degrees met with sunny skies.

However, the temperate fall weather won’t last for long. Rain is expected to start early Sunday morning after 2 a.m. throughout the day and into Monday.

The good news for sports fans: chances of a washout are slim as precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Here’s the latest forecast, per the National Weather Service:

Friday: Areas of frost before 9 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 65. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 39. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 69. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of rain after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: A chance of rain, mainly after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
