Halloween Showers, Thunderstorm Possible In PA: NWS

Will an umbrella or winter coat be an unexpected addition to Halloween costumes this year in PA? Here's your trick-or-treating weather guide

PENNSYLVANIA - Should an umbrella be included as an accessory to your Halloween costume this year? That largely depends on what time you’re planning to be outside, the National Weather Service said.

Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected in the region Monday evening into Tuesday, the weather agency said, with rainfall amounts predicted between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.

For the youngest Pennsylvania residents who plan to trick-or-treat during the late afternoon to early evening, the chance of rain remains fairly low at 30%.

“Some showers may move in Monday evening, but even an umbrella may be overkill through 8 p.m.,” the National Weather Service said in a tweet on Sunday.

Some residents may opt to trade umbrellas for a light jacket as temperatures are slated to drop into the high 50s overnight, the agency said.

Most of the heavier showers are set to take place overnight and on Tuesday morning, forecasters added.

For those commuting and donning business casual instead of a costume, five Pennsylvania counties were issued a special weather statement from the National Weather Service warning about dense fog Monday morning. The affected counties are:

  • Delaware
  • Philadelphia
  • Chester
  • Montgomery
  • Bucks

“Fog has formed during the pre-dawn hours across portions of southeastern Pennsylvania, Central and Southern New Jersey, and Delmarva centered around the I-95 urban corridor,” forecasters said. “Visibilities will locally be less than one- quarter of a mile at times. The fog will burn off a few hours after sunrise.”
