Memorial Day Weather Update For PA: Prepare For Strong Thunderstorms
The National Weather Service has issued an update to Monday's weather forecast. See the anticipated timing of storms.
EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Enjoy the sunshine on Sunday in Pennsylvania, because the possibility of storms has increased significantly for Memorial Day, according to the National Weather Service.
In an update Saturday evening, the weather service said there is a potential for widespread severe weather on Monday, with flooding possible as well.
A warm, increasingly humid air mass over eastern Pennsylvania will collide with a cold front that is anticipated to move into the area on Monday, forecasters said. Thunderstorms will be possible in the morning Monday and the probability will increase throughout the afternoon, with the potential for stronger storms with hail and heavy rain.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers before 9 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Memorial Day: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. High near 77. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 65. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible.
