PA Coronavirus Death Toll Climbs Past 2,000

The number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in Pennsylvania now stands at 2,195​.

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania reported an additional 1,102 positive cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 44,366.

The state's death count went up by 479 Wednesday, and now stands at 2,195. However, State Health Secretary Rachel Levine explained those deaths did not occur over the past 24 hours.

The deaths confirmed Wednesday all happened over the last two weeks and were recorded after "continued work to reconcile data from various sources."

Levine cautioned residents to continue to adhere to the social distancing and safety measures.

"As we see the number of new COVID-19 cases continuously change across the state that does not mean we can stop practicing social distancing," Levine said.

The news comes as the state said it will announce which regions can begin the reopening process on May 8. An announcement on the counties and regions slated to move from the red to yellow phase of mitigation measures is expected Friday.
