PA Weather: Flooding Possible, Up To 3 More Inches Of Rain In Forecast

Over 2 inches of rain have already fallen in parts of PA, but some areas may see additional accumulation through Sunday, forecasters said.

PENNSYLVANIA - A wet weekend is in store for Pennsylvania, with several inches of precipitation already drenching the state and more rain on the way, forecasters said.

While over two inches of rain have already fallen in the last 24 hours in areas like Philadelphia, Montgomery and Chester counties, up to three more inches of rain are set to fall on the state through Sunday night, the National Weather Service said.

Up to three additional inches of rain could fall in the Mount Pocono area through Sunday; the north-central region of the state could also see additional rainfall totals up to 2.4 inches in areas like Lock Haven and Williamsport, forecasters said.

The 1 to 3 additional inches of rain expected across Pennsylvania will be “mostly beneficial," but heavy downpours in a short amount of time could cause flooding on Sunday, the agency said.

As of 2:30 p.m., a hazardous weather outlook due to potential flooding is in effect for 14 counties. The affected counties are:

“Several instances of flooding are possible on Sunday, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas and near particularly vulnerable small creeks and streams,” forecasters said.

Showers are set to subside by the wee hours of Monday morning, forecasters said. A thunderstorm in the state is also possible on Sunday.

Here’s the latest forecast, per the National Weather Service:

Saturday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 47. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 58. East wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Showers likely before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. East wind 13 to 17 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday: Showers likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 58. Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
